How it works

Our systems come in three standard configurations, square, horizontal and vertical that will fit most available spaces.
Additionally, we can work closely with you to create a bespoke system that will match your needs and requirements.

How does the system work?

The system draws source water using a high pressure pump and forces the water through a series of filters to remove sediments, hydrocarbons, pesticides, heavy metals and a number of other contaminants. The water then passes through an (optional) Ultra Violet steriliser on it’s way to the water tank.

Which water sources are suitable?

The system will work on water from rivers, canals, lakes, streams, rainwater, wells and boreholes

Will the system work on sea or brackish water

The system doesn’t currently work on sea or brackish water, but we are aiming to release a desalinating version of the system by the end of the year.

How long will it take to fill my water tank using the Water Freedom system?

A. With new filters, our standard system produces 10 to 12 litres of water per minute and our UltraMegaFlow System produces around 20 litres per minute. So, a 400 litre tank would take between 20 and 40 minutes to fill, depending on which system you choose.

How often will I need to run the system?

We recommend that rather than use the system like you would use a water point, that you run the system every two or three days to top up the water used since the previous fill. This helps to keep the system in good health with regular flushing and shortens the running time of the pump.

Can I drink the water?

For legal and insurance reasons we can’t guarantee that the water is safe to drink.
Where customers do want to drink the water, we recommend the addition of a medical grade 0.05 micron undersink filter. The smallest bacteria, viruses and cysts are about 0.2 micron, so the water should in theory be free of these pathogens. As an added precaution, we recommend the use of a ZeroWater filter jug to remove any remaining contaminants and dissolved solids that may have made it through our extensive filtration process.

Why not just use a filter jug like ZeroWater and omit the Water Freedom 0.05 micron undersink filter?

Using our 0.05 micron filter first means that the ZeroWater filters will last much longer.

How much power does the system need to run?

The Standard system draws about 8 Amps continuous and 16 Amps maximum at 12 Volts and the UltraMegaFlow System draws roughly double that. The UV light on both systems draws 28 Watts. However, because the system produces so much water, it doesn’t need to run for very long.For customers with a good solar array, the system should run perfectly well just on solar power when there’s good light. When there’s little solar gain users might need to run their engine or generator for the short time the system needs to run.

What power supply is needed.

The pump runs on 12 Volt DC and Ultra Violet tube runs on 240 Volts AC. However, to both simplify installation and to guarantee the pump gets a reliable and clean 12 Volts or more, we make a single connection to a 240 Volt supply and use an adapter/regulator to convert to 12 Volts.This also means that we can use our standard range of 12 Volt pumps even if the customer has a 24 Volt power configuration.

I live on a boat, will I need to switch on my inverter to run the system?

Yes, during the short time the system is running you’ll need to switch on your inverter, because the system needs a 240 Volt power supply.

How often do the filters need to be changed?

The three sediment filters will need to be changed every one to three months, depending on the quality of the source water and usage. The other filters all last approximately 12 months.

How much do the filters cost?

The sediment filters cost less than £5 each depending on the quantity you buy. The other filters for hydrocarbons, heavy metals, pesticides and the ultra-fine undersink filter are more expensive, but for a typical user only need to be changed once per year. We offer a 12 month supply of sediment filters for £72 and the other filters cost between £100 and £250 depending on system configuration.

Are the filters easy to change

Filter changing is very easy and should take no more than 15 minutes for an entire set

How will I know when the filters need to be changed?

The water flow will slow down as the filters get older and become more and more clogged.

Will the water become less clean as the filters get older.

With the sediment filters the water flow will slow down but the sediments will still be removed. With the filters for hydrocarbons, heavy metals and pesticides, they will eventually reach the point where they can’t absorb any more of the contaminants they are designed to trap, so they must be changed on schedule.

Do Water Freedom install the systems?

Yes, one, sometimes two engineers will install your system, fit the filters, check that everything is working properly and train you how to use and maintain your system. All of our engineers are highly experienced with many years of marine engineering experience.

How long does it take to install the system?

Usually, installation is completed in one day.

What is the waiting time for installation?

Our installation queue is usually around six to eight weeks, but is sometimes sooner if an installation slot unexpectedly becomes available.

Can I install the system myself?

Yes, we do offer a self-install option, but we don’t recommend it as even small errors can have a dramatic impact on system performance. For this reason, we don’t offer a warranty on self-installed systems.

How do I order your system?

Give us a call on 020 7183 1230 so we can discuss your requirements and give you a quotation.
We sometimes need to do a pre-installation survey to confirm that it will be possible to install the system and take measurements – this can sometimes be done on a video call.

Once you’ve decided you want to go ahead, we ask customers to pay a 50% deposit to confirm your order. Installation usually takes place six to eight weeks later, but you might be offered an earlier installation date if a slot becomes available at short notice.

Do I have to pay for a pre-installation survey?

If we need to visit to do a pre-installation survey, we ask customers to pay a £200 survey fee.
This is fully refundable against any system purchase from us within 12 months. There is no charge for a survey done via video call.

What are the payment terms?

We ask customers to pay a 50% deposit to confirm an order.
The balance is due on the day of installation.

How should I make payments?

We currently only accept payment by bank transfer.

Does the system come with a warranty?

Yes, provided the system is installed by Water Freedom or a Water Freedom approved installer, the system comes with a full 12 month parts and labour warranty. Provided you are within our service area, in the event of a fault, we will send an engineer to diagnose the fault and get your system working.

What is your Service Area?

Our Service Area is currently a 30 mile radius of London, plus an 80 mile radius of Northampton and an 80 mile radius of Stratford-Upon-Avon.

What if I’m outside of your Service Area?

If you’re outside of our Service Area, we’ll provide telephone support to a suitably qualified electrician/plumber/marine engineer sourced and paid for by you.

What are your service charges after the warranty period?

We charge £100 for a call-out which includes the first half hour, plus £40 per half hour thereafter
